This is a pre-release version of my upcoming book “Evidence Guided: Creating High-Impact Products In the Face of Uncertainty.” (expected to publish Sep 2023)

The book summarizes what I’ve learned in over 25 years as a product manager and coach, including at Google, startups, and scale-ups.

The sad fact is that most of what we develop is not helping our users or contributing to our business. We all know the theory of Product Discovery/Lean Startup/Design Thinking, but we live in complex realities that make adoption hard and slow. Many organizations are stuck in some unhappy compromise between the old way and the new.

In this book I offer an actionable model - the GIST framework - that will help you bring evidence-guided thinking into your own company. I cover principles, models, process, and adoption.

These are some of the things you’ll learn:

  • Creating goals, OKRs, and metrics trees. Aligning goals across the org, dealing with dependencies and output-oriented managers.
  • Evaluating ideas efficiently using ICE (Impact, Confidence, Ease) without wishful thinking and cognitive biases.
  • Using the Confidence Meter to weigh evidence and to stop decision-by-opinion and politics.
  • Combining learning with building to rapidly develop the right things, even without much experimentation knowhow or resources.
  • Enlisting your agile development team to help with both discovery and delivery. Boosting their user and  customer-focus, and generally having more fun developing things that matter.
  • Deploying Evidence-Guided thinking across your organization. Dealing with sticky topics like roadmaps, strategy, and misalignment.
  • Adapting the system to your size and type of company, including startup, scale-ups, enterprises, working on B2C, B2B, multi-sided marketplaces,  hardware, and internal platform and services.
  • Dealing with objections and delays, smoothing the adoption path, and getting people to play along.

I can't guarantee that this book will solve all your problems, but I'm confident it will arm you with powerful tool and help you move in the right direction.

Here’s what you’ll get:

  • The full book in PDF format. The book is now in late-stage editing so some things may change, but otherwise it includes everything I intend to publish.
  • Access to a community of early readers where we will discuss questions and feedback. I will personally answer any question posted on the community. We will hold live webinars if there's interest from the community.
  • Direct access to the me, the author for 1:1 questions over email/Slack (topics related to the book)
  • A chance to give feedback and help improve the book.

Note: as an early reader you will receive some emails from me soliciting feedback. If you're not interested to read the book right away or to give feedback, I suggest waiting for the published version and allowing someone else to enter the early-reader cohort.
